We already have the answer to the carbon problem.... NUCLEAR. We just need to have the governmental will to push a massive nuclear reactor building project all over the country. Solar and wind are still a LONG way from being efficient enough to make a real difference.

Williams has drank the kool-aid like many others. I'm not sure he believes what he's saying. Krauthammer nailed it again. this is truly an Obamanation.

Wind and solar combined provide under 2% of our current electricity needs. Williams and the lefties live in a separate reality - they ignore or actively thwart the construction of new nuclear energy plants (which provide 70% or our zero-emission electricity and 20% of our total); they claim to want us off foreign oil - but restrict or rule as off-limits land, ANWR and the OCS which could produce billions of barrels of crude (and do it responsibly with less environmental impact due to EPA, OSHA and the alphabet soup of enviro groups) and have done so since the OPEC embargo in the 70's; coal-fired plants provide 50% of our electricity yet they'll force up the cost of new plants under CCS regulations (an unsubstantiated process); and they even bring lawsuits against wind and solar projects due to the excessive amount of land used (Sen. Feinstein opposed the placement of a solar farm in the Mojave desert)!

Jimmy Carter proclaimed that we'd be a coal-electricity country by 2000. He was right and no one on the Left is taking him to task for his environmental myopia. Are these people schizophrenic?

We have more oil and natural gas reserves than anyone, but we cannot access them because of the "tree-huggers" and the far-left lobby. developing these resources would create jobs and reduce our dependance on foreign oil. Isn't that the objective? Not only will cap n trade not create net new jobs once the energy inflation materializes , the shifting of manufacturing off shore will greatly increase just to maintain manufacturing competitiveness.

DRS - spot on! And I'm in the solar panel business, yet recognize its limitations. Have you seen the new "mini-nukes" coming up for NRC review? Hyperion, NuScale, B&W mPower, Toshiba 4S, Adams Atomic Engines are among the most prominent and promising. I believe the tide is turning - on both AGW (the skeptics have the momentum) and nuclear power (over 50% of Americans are in favor now) - and since the "mini's" don't have the cooling towers to scare people, the new nukes will be much more attractive, in every sense of the word.

Krauthammer: 'Reduce the reduction in the use of energy.' Has you finally lost it?

Then you go on to proclaim:
'If there is no rise in rates, there is no incentive to reduce emissions, and the whole purpose of the bill is undermined'.

In other words Mr Super Con, there must always be an 'incentive', people you know won't do ANYTHING out of proper volition? For the good of all?

No wonder you guys with your selfish ideas are - Thank God! - dying off.

Look, this Cap and Trade travesty creates no jobs, no independence, no cheaper energy and nothing to help our military. After all, just what will Green do for our military in an emergency? Zip, nada. It cannot roll on wave, wind or sun power! And where is the promise of cheaper oil and gas? None. No nuclear power, no clean coal, no natural gas exploration. Waxman. Markey. Pelosi. All 3 scare me to death with their anti-free enterprise ideology. Charles is correct. This penalizes the poor, the farmers, the NE people who will freeze in the winter with huge energy taxes. The Mid-West corporations trying to hire will not hire. If voters keep putting these socialist pacifist Dems in office, they will find that America will collapse into a Belgium-Zimbabwe level and we shall be eating the dust of not only our enemies but many of our so called allies. BTW, the 8 Pubs who voted for this evil : Chris Smith of NJ is a great guy on abortion but clueless on energy. Frank LoBiondo of Cape May: I am an old Cape May boy and this guy is clueless on jobs and gas prices. Mary Bono of Palm Springs: can you imagine voting for this with all the seniors that make up her constituents? Yipe.

Krauthammer and the critics who share his view are so right - solar and wind are no solution. That sort of nonsense only works in Europe where they are moving ahead aggressively to increase the portion of energy that is supplied via solar and wind as well as creating new jobs. But this is not feasible in the US although I'm not quite sure why. Just because I suppose.

Solar and Wind are fine, but not one person in congress or the bill will tell you that they can only supply at a max 23% of our energy needs. Where is the rest suppose to come from ? Nothing about how do you store this energy for use when the sun isn't shining or the wind isn't blowing, do we all go dark when the sun goes down?

What about those same green people that tell you oh no, you can't put that wind machine there cause it might kill a bird or in CA where they don't want the solar plant because they don't like the view. How about Ted K., he didn't want the wind generator off the coast of his house beacuse they didn't want the view.

Not only will we be broke from the un-needed taxs of the bill but we will be living in the dark ages again.

Krauthammer: 'Reduce the reduction in the use of energy.' Has you finally lost it?

=========================================================
I heard 'Induce the reduction in the use of energy.'

Next time, take a Q-tip and put it in your left ear and push until it comes out of your right ear.

If he said what you wrote, then I will do what I asked you to do.

Evidently you missed the part where they talked about the concessions given to moderate democrats to get them to sign on. That is the very incenmtive that you speak so lowly of
given to your fellow idiot democrats that sign this travesty.

I can not believe that the supposed intellectual elite think this way. The Kool-Aid must be really good. To sit here and listen to these people pontificate about all of the bs in DC just makes me want to scream. Are they really that dumb, or are they just that uninformed. If we are concerned about CO2 (a bs deal but I am not going to go into it) why not nuke. Lift the reprocessing ban and lets have at it with minimal waste. Coal gasification to create fuel for cars and we can flip the bird to the middle east. This has got to stop this economy would have recovered 6 months ago if it were not for these idiots and their idiot in chief. I hate conspiracy theories but my god I think most of these people would rather see the human race disappear. I fear the collective IQ of DC might not register and yet they have all of the power. This is not going to end well. People in DC (both sides mind you) need a little real world experience to realize how dumb they look. (but maybe they are so dumb that they would not realize it?)

For all of you who support this and have commented, realize this, this is what starts wars, degradation in living standards never ends up well, and there is no doubt this will reduce living standards. Get a life read something other then the NY Times and Daily Kos, research and you will find a big @#$%& hole in the enviros logic. Oh wait that is the main problem they have forgotten what logic is. Feelings are all that matters. I hate to bring it up but read Atlas Shrugged. We are headed right down this path and the only thing standing in the way is a republican party that does not know its @#$%& from a hole in the ground.

Give me liberty or give me death. Sad to say but I think this is what we are headed for.

No matter how powerful the Senate, House and President are, they cannot legislate cost-effective clean energy into existence.
