GOP Leaders Face Bailout Pressure

RCP Comment Policies
By Reid Wilson
As the votes came in Monday afternoon, perhaps no one on Capitol Hill had more on the line than House Republican Leader John Boehner and Whip Roy Blunt. In the end, just 65 of the 199 Republicans in the House voted for the bill, sealing its fate as it went down to defeat.

Though Republican leadership is hopeful it can corral more members to vote for the second version of the economic stabilization plan when it comes up today, Boehner's and Blunt's performance earned decidedly mixed reviews. Heading into a tumultuous election, both leaders' futures atop the conference are being questioned.

Boehner walked a delicate line in urging his members to vote with him in the first place. Facing a rising tide of newly prominent members who oppose big spending, In asking those same members to buy in to a $700 billion bill, Boehner had to step lightly. (Read Full Article)

...and at the last the favorite of trailer trash racist conservatives who campaigned for months on illegal immigration but was two cowardly and vote poor to even show up at ONE actual caucus, Tommy the greaser teacher union mouthpiece voted FOR the bailout.

If any of the usual trailer trash conservative racist scum have a constitutional explanation, I would be happy to read it.

Have a Nice Day!

Republicans are in this mess (facing electoral extinction) because the 2000 braintrust thought by pushing bigotry and racism on the immigration issue, it would gain the "union vote" and long term political supremacy.

The result? Big government Republicanism, a disgusted base, and a party most independents find repulsive. In short the result is that we now have a political party called "republican" that in essense believes exactly the opposite of everything Ronald Reagan stood for. In place of reason we have ranting Fox racist blowhards nightly who susbstite regular temper tantrums and accusations of non-patriotism for rational arguments based on the rule of law and common sense.

Bummer.

2/3 or democrats voted for the bill, 1/4 of republicans. with a 12 seat majority it doesnt pass. The democrats do not play the same lockstep politics that the republican party practiced from 1998 - 2006 when any republican that did not line up with whatever insanity was being proposed was damned as a RINO and run out of the party. While Move On and a couple of other organizations are trying to impose this silliness on the democrats I doubt it will ever really succeed. If it does it will spell then end of a democratic majority until they also grow up.

As I understand the bailout bill contains language that sets up federal loan managers who have the power to review bank loan contracts with low income folks, and force changes to the interest rate charged and length of the loan if the applicant is unsatisfied with the terms of the contract... The idea is to make the loan affordable to the applicant. On the other hand, the federal loan managers, who might be ACORN employees, stand to lose nothing if the spread between interest paid and interest earned on CDs is negative.

So what that Biden has a million facts and figures at his disposal - those facts and figures have gotten the American taxpayer into a financial mess -
All the Dems want is PROCESS - Reid and Pelosi and PROCESS all the time.

A democracy will die on PROCESS - Obama's ideal, along with his Marxism.

A democracy must have principle - the exact point of Abraham Lincoln.
Sarah Palin has principle!
She is NOT an insider.

Funny how zerObama screeches change and hope and then turns back to inside Washington with Biden -
that's not hope - THAT"S DOPE - that's nothing more than process.

McCain/PAlin are principle.
I'll take Sarah Palin any day over Biden -
after all Bidens had 35+ years and this is where we are...
The American voter has to ask: am I better off after 30+ years of Senator Biden's facts and figures.
What has he ever done - When did he warn Americans about the Fannie Mae crisis - after all, he has all the facts!!!

Palin has had two years as governor of Alaska and look where Alaskans are -
much richer with a government they can trust!

McCain/Palin.

Biden said that Obama would let bankruptcy judges readjust interest and principle on bad loans. Obama called the Black Caucus before the House vote on the bailout bill to confirm what Biden had said. In fact it is in the bill.

The question is, how might this policy affect banks readiness to make loans to low income folks if the bank knows a judge might reduce or erase the principle?

As the polls and the days before the election dwindle down towards a likely Democratic landslide and massacre of Republicans, the usual girly boy suspects are becoming more shrill and more desparate. Wonder weapons produced in January 1945 were not able to save the Third Reich and neither will the bailout baill one way or the other save the Conservative movement. Not when the damm thing only missed by 12 votes in the first place.

There are Republican activists who labored for 40 years in order win Republican majorities in the House, Senate during a Republican presidency. In 2000, it happened. And how did the new crop of Republican leaders spend their inheritance?

On bigotry.
On racism.
On keeping George Tenet (appointed to CIA by Clinton) in office.
On Ted Kennedy's Education "Bailout"
On Medicare Prescriptions "Bailout"
On Social Security "Bailouts"
On a big government police state.
On the operational repeal of the Bill of Rights.
On Campaign Finance Communism.
On an undeclared, unprovoked and illegal war.
On holding hands like a little girl with the Saudia Arabian King.
On Tommy Tancredo who never bothered (for all the hoopla) to show up in Iowa but yet voted for and is campaigning FOR the 1 TRILLION DOLLAR BAILOUT.
On night after night of Fox News propaganda, bigotry, ranting, mindlessness, racism and fascism designed to capture the majority of the 5% of Americans who are stupid, too lazy, too ignorant and too racist to have a social life 5 nights a week from 7pm to 9pm.

GOP Leaders aren't facing bailout pressure, but rather election pressure. Numerous state and national polls now point to at least a chance of 60 Democratic Senate Seats and the possibility of an additional 30 house democrats. Even if McCain were to somehow win an upset, he would be facing likely democrat majorities in congress.

Bailout pressure?
Try election pressure.

I'm confused. Is there not a majority of Democrats in the House? Why doesn't Pelosi face the pressure to make this screwup happen?
